Charles Babbage His discovery: Charles Babbage His discovery In the 1820s Babbage began developing his Difference Engine, a mechanical device that can perform simple mathematical calculations. Babbage started to build his Difference Engine, but was unable to complete it because of a lack of funding. However, in 1991 British scientists, following Babbage's detailed drawings and specifications, constructed the Difference Engine. The machine works flawlessly, calculating up to a precision of 31 digits, proving that Babbage's design was sound. It was this invention that led to the modern day computer.

Charles Babbage Why his Difference machine was so important: Charles Babbage Why his Difference machine was so important This invention lead to the modern day computer to which we all rely on heavily. Most of us no longer use the computer as to which Babbage intended it to be. In fact not many people would. But no one of our generation can undermine the impact that Charles Babbage’s invention has on our lives.

The Enigma Machine: The Enigma Machine During W.W.II the Germans used mechanical devices to encrypt their radio messages. The best known of these machines is the Enigma, which was initially invented in 1918 for commercial applications, until it was adopted by the German Army for military encipherment. They were effective until the Colossus machines were invented in 1944. The Colossus machine was a machine that was designed to decode German encrypted messages.

How They Influenced The Second World War The Enigma and Colossus Machine: How They Influenced The Second World War The Enigma and Colossus Machine Had the British not invented the Colossus machine, or the Germans had used a machine with better security I don’t think they could have won the war. I thin that the British only won the war because they knew what the Germans were going to do next and they prevented the intended destruction.
