New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA): 

New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) Established in 1975 by State Legislature Executive level organization Cognizant energy agency for New York Mission: To identify solutions to State’s energy and environmental challenges in ways that benefit the State’s economy Forge public/private partnerships with businesses, municipalities, residents, and other energy stakeholders to accomplish this goal

New York City Private Fleet AFV/EV Program: 

New York City Private Fleet AFV/EV Program Targets commercial & non-profit medium/heavy duty fleets in urban area Pays up to 80% of new Electric, HEV or CNG vehicles (including dual-fuel) or CARB certified conversions Can combine vehicle and fueling projects $4.25 m awarded for 180 vehicles to date $11.5 m available over next five years

Greater Long Island Clean Cities: 

Greater Long Island Clean Cities Model Program to flow down Federal funds, through State, to Clean City Locally marketed and managed Annual solicitation for competitive grants Pays for up to 80% for incremental vehicle cost and infrastructure $7.6 m awarded to date

NYS Clean Cities Challenge: 

NYS Clean Cities Challenge Uses Federal SEP funds (Formula and Special Projects) Supports fleet projects in New York’s six Clean City communities Funds awarded on competitive basis for: Incremental vehicle cost Certified conversions Fueling stations Petroleum terminal upgrades for biofuels $650,000 awarded for 21 medium and heavy duty projects

NYS Clean Water/Air Bond Act: 

NYS Clean Water/Air Bond Act Major State-funded initiative to address environmental issues ($1.75 billion) $28 million for Clean-Fueled Bus Program Competitive grants for transit authorities, municipalities, and school districts Funds up to 100% of incremental cost for new CNG and Hybrid-Electric diesel buses, and associated infrastructure 384 CNG and 155 HE buses funded to date

NYS Clean Air School Bus: 

NYS Clean Air School Bus CW/CA Bond Act provided $5 million to retrofit school buses with diesel oxidation catalysts or particulate filters Funds awarded on competitive basis Emissions (primarily PM) reduced per dollar invested Based on length of bus route, # stops, ridership 2,124 school buses retrofitted with DOCs and filters

Tapping Environmental Funds EPA Clean School Bus USA – Increasing source of funds for retrofits and AFV school bus projects Environmental Settlements – A great source of funds for transportation projects which address local pollution NYSERDA using $3 million from three Settlements for school bus retrofits and block heater/idling pilot
