Hello; I have quite a few RCA Selectavision Discs .. They are very big , in plastic covers..... I have never seen them and I don't know how they were viewed or what kind of device was used to view them. Can you help me ?

History : History MGM has one of the richest histories in Hollywood. Such classic films as 'Gone With the Wind', 'Ben-Hur', 'The Wizard of Oz' and 'Doctor Zhivago' all were produced by MGM Studios. After enduring some cutbacks in the 70s, MGM flourished as MGM/United Artists films, releasing such blockbusters as 'The Silence of the Lambs', 'Rain Man' and 'Get Shorty'.


Home Entertainment : Home Entertainment Banks on the success of a film in theaters, or seeks to expand audience of film. VHS or videos Digital Video Discs or DVDs are becoming increasing popular. +


Digital Video Discs : Digital Video Discs Digital Video Discs, or DVDs, are featured films on discs that resemble Compact Discs. Handles much more data and operates on several physical layers on the disc. This permits movies to be presented in higher video and audio quality.


Benefits of DVDs : Benefits of DVDs Higher Video Quality: Allows many films to be presented in its’ original widescreen format. Improved Audio Clarity: Produces many films in Dolby Digital Surround Sound. Extras and Supplemental Features.


What are Extras? : What are Extras? Extras are the supplemental materials that are placed on DVDs. Extras can include, but are not limited too: Audio Commentaries Deleted Scenes Featurettes or Documentaries Theatrical Trailers


Audio Commentaries : Audio Commentaries What are they? Usually feature length discussions by individuals involved with the film and they speak as the film plays. Could be the director, producer, writer, or other cast members. For example, the 'Legally Blonde' DVD has audio commentary from star Reese Witherspoon, the director and producer. In the best cases, commentaries can provide added insight to the films you love and have questions about. Enhances the film experience.


Featurettes : Featurettes Also known as documentaries, can range in scope, but usually focus on some part of the film and go in-depth about it. For example, on the recently released MGM DVD 'Mad Max', there is a featurette on how Mel Gibson has become a Hollywood star since starring as the lead in 'Mad Max'. Again, if done well these production featurettes can shed light on some aspect of filmmaking.


What Role does MGM play in all this? : What Role does MGM play in all this? Attempt to put out DVDs that bolster the film from theaters. Also to strive and re-release catalog titles from past years and if able, to produce special editions of these films that include extra material (i.e. 'Mad Max') A scene from the newly remastered 'Mad Max'.


Existing DVDs from MGM : Existing DVDs from MGM 007 Box Set Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal: Both discs include deleted footage, featurettes and Hannibal features an audio commentary from director Ridley Scott ('Gladiator')
