[605-2]Original print of Francis di AssisiThis painting depicts St. Francis di Assisi blessing birds at the base of a tree, as a nun stands behind him and observes. St. Francis di Assisi is the patron saint of animals. One famous tale of his compassion for animals, in particular birds, comes from the Floretti or the “little flowers”. One day as Francis was traveling with companions along the countryside they came upon a group of birds, Francis left his companions to go and talk to the birds, none of the birds left but seemed to stay and listen to the saint. Francis said: “My sister birds, you owe much to God, and you must always and in everyplace give praise to Him; for He has given you freedom to wing through the sky and He has clothed you…you neither sow nor reap, and God feeds you and gives you rivers and fountains for your thirst, and mountains and valleys for shelter, and tall trees for your nests. And although you neither know how to spin or weave, God dresses you and your children, for the Creator loves you greatly and He blesses you abundantly. Therefore… always seek to praise God. This print exemplifies the saint’s love of animals and his connection to them, as all the birds sit and listen as the saint speaks to them. The painting is in good condition and is in rendered in muted tones. Good condition. PRICE $30024 x 19 :[605-2]Original print of Francis di AssisiThis painting depicts St. Francis di Assisi blessing birds at the base of a tree, as a nun stands behind him and observes.
