GIST OF THE STORY:

GIST OF THE STORY The book takes the form of a fable about – Julian Mantle, a high-profile attorney with a crazy schedule and a set of priorities that center around money, power and prestige. His story is told from the perspective of one of his associates, who admires Mantle’s great success and aspires to be like him. But when Mantle has a heart attack, he drops out of the game and disappears. He sells all his possessions and goes to India to seek a more meaningful existence. When he comes back, he’s a changed man . Really, it’s as if he’s a completely different person. WHERE THE AUTHOR SCORES……. (PLUS POINTS):

WHERE THE AUTHOR SCORES……. (PLUS POINTS) The book succeeds in its objective of making the readers aware of the true essence of life. termed as a ' self help book ' or a ' wisdom filled novel'. The way it has been presented is persuading and encouraging . He has put things straight and simple. So it is an easy to read and understand – book. Brings out the fruits of ancient Hindu and Buddhist philosophies in a way that the present generation would be able to ingest. In one line 'The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari' is about the body, mind and soul. We have often heard of the phrase - 'Big things come in small packages' . Living a complex life often makes us forget that most of the complicated questions have simple solutions. This book focuses on self-actualization.

LESSONS LEARNED:

LESSONS LEARNED Some thoughts that really inspired us this book : * The only limits on yourself are those that you set. * Spend some time in solitude everyday in meditation. * Don't race against others ; race against yourself * Visualize yourself as a disciplined, firm person fully in control of your mind. * Take a break from what you are used to do and start doing something you actually have a taste for .

Slide 13:

Some Lessons for management students: a.) Time management b.) Never say die c.) Will power

CRITICAL ANALYSIS:

CRITICAL ANALYSIS Wisdom dished out by Sharma is only old wine in new bottle . The style of Sharma is full of hyperbolic statements with abundance of adjectives such as--limitless? ?wonderful? ?highly effective? ?most potent? ?tremendous? etc. Your characters emerge as stereotypes...Julian Mantle...we're not touched by his humanity. His relationship with Mantle generates no sparks, just attraction. The author has an annoying habit of repetition in this book. He repeats the phrases  "The sages of Savanna used to... and Yogi Raman used to... there is another powerful technique which will transform things... and so on... You can come across these phrases a couple of dozen times and this peeves the reader.

CONCLUSION:

CONCLUSION So with the positives edging out the negatives ,is it recommended and worthy ? We would say YES ,for this book has a wonderful plot and is a must read for  anybody who wants to graduate to a higher level of thinking about life and have a better quality of living a fulfilling and purposeful life . Most recommended for those who have confined their life's inside cubicles. if you still feel that  Rs 175 is a heavy price for this book, you may borrow one from your friend or library, read this and duly return in a week’s time just as one of us did !!!   :-)
