Story Of A Leader:

Story Of A Leader There were about 70 scientists working on a very hectic project. All of them were really frustrated due to the pressure of work and the demands of their boss but everyone was loyal to him and did not think of quitting the job. One day, one scientist came to his boss and told him - Sir, I have promised to my children that I will take them to the exhibition going on in our township. So I want to leave the office at 5 30 pm. His boss replied "OK, You're permitted to leave the office early today". The Scientist started working. As usual he got involved to such an extent that he looked at his watch when he felt he was close to completion. The time was 8.30 PM. Suddenly he remembered of the promise he had given to his children. Deep within himself, he was feeling guilty for having disappointed his children. He reached home. Children were not there. He asked his wife ,but what about Children ??" .Wife replied "You don't know?? , Your manager came here at 5.15 PM and has taken the children to the exhibition ".

Slide 3:

What had really happened was .... The boss who granted him permission was observing him working seriously at 5.00 PM. He thought to himself, this person will not leave the work, but if he has promised his children they should enjoy the visit to exhibition. So he took the lead in taking them to exhibition The boss does not have to do it every time. But once it is done, loyalty is established. That is why all the scientists at Thumba continued to work under their boss even though the stress was tremendous. By the way, can you hazard a guess as to who the boss was ???????? He was none other than …………………

Kalam’s observation and message :

Kalam’s observation and message In APJ Kalam’s words “YOU say that our government is inefficient. YOU say that our laws are too old. YOU say that the municipality does not pick up the garbage. YOU say that the phones don't work; the railways are a joke, The airline is the worst in the world, mails never reach their destination. YOU say that our country has been fed to the dogs and is the absolute pits. YOU say, say and say. What do YOU do about it?”

Slide 10:

Again quoting APJ Kalam, he says “I am echoing J.F. Kennedy's words to his fellow American to relate to Indians.” “ ASK NOT WHAT YOUR COUNTRY CAN DO FOR YOU ; ASK WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR COUNTRY AND DO WHAT IS TO BE DONE TO MAKE INDIA AN EXAMPLE FOR THE WORLD TO FOLLOW” Let's do what India needs from us.

On Wednesday April 29, 2009, Abdul Kalam became the first Asian to be bestowed the Hoover medal , America’s top engineering prize for his outstanding contribution to public service.

Criticism faced:

Criticism faced Many of his peers have criticized him for bombastic statements . They have questioned both his scientific and intellectual acumen. Or have scoffed that all his doctoral degrees are honorary. Many believe that A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s larger than life image is the fruit of self-promotion, audacious political opportunism and pumped-up nationalism, combined with the ignorance of an uncritical media. They are of the opinion that in a nation thirsting for heroes, the question marks have been airbrushed out of the frame by so called “inspiring” speeches and “motivational” books Two prominent nuclear scientists have stood up to question Kalam’s clean chit to the “Pokhran II” tests. They believe that the yield was lower than what was claimed, and was certainly not what was desired.

Interesting story:

Interesting story In the month of august 1979 ,before setting satelite rohini in the orbit in 1980 project director Apj and his team at ISRO were ready for the launch four minutes before the satellite launch, some technical glitches were detected His team of experts told him not to worry as they had done their calculatons So he bypassed the computer, switched to manual mode, and launched the rocket. Instead of the satellite going into orbit, the whole rocket system plunged into the Bay of Bengal. It was a big failure. chairman of the ISRO Prof. Satish Dhawan, had called a press conference. The launch was at 7:00 am, and the press conference@ 7.45am Prof. Dhawan, the leader of the organization, conducted the press conference himself. He took responsibility for the failure .. Apj was the project director and it was his failure, but instead, Prof. Dhawan took responsibility for the failure as chairman of the organization. The next year, in July 1980, they tried again to launch the satellite -- and this time we succeeded. The whole nation was jubilant. Again, there was a press conference. Prof. Dhawan called me aside and told me, "You conduct the press conference today."

Inspiration to all indians:

Inspiration to all indians He is considered a leading progressive, mentor, innovator and visionary in India . . He is the perfect example of how a leader should be. His vision, goals and thoughts are so motivating He always makes sure he is not a politician, but one among us. Kalam has emerged as the “czar of Indian science and technology” and has sought these ways of science and technology to transform India into a developed country.

Lessons learnt :

Lessons learnt Early in life he demonstrated a capacity for hard work and a will to succeed. His life and mission is a vindication of what a determined person can achieve against extraordinary odds. He is a tireless soldier He dreams of making India a technological superpower. More important, he is still capable of acting on it.

Slide 28:

Kalam is an inspirational figure because he demonstrates that merit can succeed and thrive amidst cynicism and nepotism. More important Kalam's achievement is of an integrator of science who from an apparently mediocre team churned out awesome excellence. In short, he delivered.

Slide 29:

Slide 30:

He says simply, "Dream dreams because dreams lead to thought and thought leads to action.“ In his case it has always led to extraordinary action.
