CRETCH Factory crèche, 1950s Some factories in the 1950s needed female workers and organised childcare for the pre-school children of their employees. This centre in Auckland provided care for 3–5 year olds at a cost of 12 shillings and 6 pence a week. It was open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and provided activities for the children, as well as a three-course lunch. Mothers' work hours at the factory were organised around the hours of childcare.
