Junked or Inoperable Vehicles: 

Junked or Inoperable Vehicles All vehicles on any property should be currently licensed, and must be in operating condition. Vehicles with flat tires, expired licenses, missing doors or engine parts are considered inoperable.

Recreational Vehicles: 

Recreational Vehicles Boats, campers, snowmobiles, and R.V.’s may only be stored in certain areas of side and rear yards, or driveways on residential property.

Yard Parking: 

Yard Parking No person may park or place a motor vehicle on any yard area on any lot within the city, except in established driveway areas

Garbage Containers: 

Garbage Containers Must have tight fitting lids. May not be placed at curb for collection until the night before and must be removed the next morning. May only be stored alongside or in back of the house or garage

Grass and Weeds: 

Grass and Weeds Any grass or weeds over six inches in height is prohibited and must be cut

Garbage, Refuse, and Debris: 

Garbage, Refuse, and Debris City Ordinance prohibits the outside storage of garbage, refuse, and debris on any property in the City Examples; cans, paper, cardboard, bottles, wood other than firewood, appliances, furniture, tires, bricks, cement, etc. Must be disposed of once a week by a licensed hauler, or self hauled to a licensed site

Vehicles for Sale: 

Vehicles for Sale May only be displayed for sale in your driveway Not on street Not in parking lot Not on lawn

House Numbers: 

House Numbers All houses and buildings must have numbers which are large enough to be read from the street 6700 For your own safety and convenience

Number of Residents: 

Number of Residents Richfield City Ordinance prohibits more than three people not related by blood, marriage, or adoption from residing in a single family home

Firewood: 

Firewood Firewood may be stored outside on a property if it is neatly stacked, it must be elevated above the ground 8- 10 inches to prevent the harborage of vermin such as rodents and wildlife

Composting: 

Composting Private composting is permitted if the following guidelines are met; only organic materials can be composted; composting must be enclosed, no garbage added to the compost. Compost must be enclosed, located in the rear yard, be 3 feet from property line, and not constitute a nuisance.

Home Occupations: 

Home Occupations Home occupations may not adversely affect the neighborhood Must not be noticeable from outside the residence Vehicle repair not allowed

Animal Control

Animal Ordinances: 

Animal Ordinances Dogs and Cats to be Licensed Dogs must be under restraint, leashed Feces must be disposed of Certain animals must be confined at certain times Owners responsible for public nuisances by their animals Animals must be quarantined Animal abandonment Kennel licenses are required

Dogs and Cats Must be Licensed: 

Dogs and Cats Must be Licensed All dogs and cats over 6 months of age living in, or visiting the city for more than 30 days, must be licensed Single or multi-year licenses Vaccination certificate required

Dogs Must be Under Restraint: 

Dogs Must be Under Restraint A dog is not under restraint; If a leash longer than 6 feet in length is used as a restraint If not leashed, and off the owners property, and not sitting at heel

Disposal of Feces: 

Disposal of Feces Feces must be immediately cleaned up and disposed of in a sanitary manner; This is required on all public property This is also required on residential property in relation to kennels and yards.

Confinement: 

Confinement Certain animals must be confined; Fierce or Dangerous Dogs, except when muzzled and controlled by a competent person Dogs or cats in heat, except when exercised on leash

Public Nuisances: 

Public Nuisances Owners responsible for public nuisances; Barking, howling, whining, etc. Disposal of feces Continuing at large violations Petition required Abatement process prior to citation or court

Quarantine: 

Quarantine Any dog, cat, or animal capable of transmitting the rabies virus to humans or other animals must be quarantined for 10 days, minimum, after a biting incident

Abandonment: 

Abandonment No dog, or any other animal, may be abandoned; This applies to any animal impounded or held at the city kennel This also applies to any location within the City of Richfield

Kennel License Required: 

Kennel License Required Residential Kennel License; Required for owners of more than two dogs and one cat, or reverse (3 animals total), policy cap of 5 animals maximum. Commercial Kennel License; Veterinary, groomer, boarding, etc.

Treatment All animals shall be treated and kept in a humane manner; Food, water, and shelter required Shade is required during certain months Seasonal considerations

Wildlife The City abounds with wildlife; Do not feed deer and raccoons Stay away from wildlife, especially mothers and kits We will assist with removal from the living spaces of your home if necessary
