PRESENTATION ON CLOUD COMPUTING Presented by T.Ayappan

WHAT IS CLOUD COMPUTING?:

WHAT IS CLOUD COMPUTING? Computer services delivered via the Internet covering more than apps & data storage. Using web apps or server services you pay to access instead of software or hardware you buy and install.

PowerPoint Presentation:

Involves delivering hosted services over the Internet

GOAL OF CLOUD COMPUTING:

GOAL OF CLOUD COMPUTING To provide easy, scalable access to computing resources and IT services. A cloud can be private or public. Public cloud sells services to anyone on the Internet. Amazon Web Services is the largest public cloud provider Private cloud is a proprietary network or a data center that supplies hosted services to a limited number of people.

CLOUD SERVICE:

CLOUD SERVICE Sold on demand, typically by the minute or the hour Elastic -- a user can have as much or as little of a service as they want at any given time Managed by the provider -the consumer needs nothing but a personal computer and Internet access. Significant innovations in virtualization and distributed computing have accelerated interest in cloud computing.

CLOUD COMPUTING CATEGORIES:

CLOUD COMPUTING CATEGORIES Infrastructure as a service ( IaaS ) Platform as a service ( PaaS ) Software as a service ( SaaS )

INFRASTRUCTURE AS A SERVICE:

INFRASTRUCTURE AS A SERVICE Provides users with virtual infrastructure like servers and data storage space. Refers to a facility given to businesses that offers users with extra storage space and data centers. Example: Amazon CloudFormation

PLATFORM AS A SERVICE :

PLATFORM AS A SERVICE Provides users with development environment services where they create and run home-grown apps. Developers create applications on the provider's platform over the Internet. PaaS providers may use APIs or software installed on the customer's computer.

SOFTWARE AS A SERVICE:

SOFTWARE AS A SERVICE Provides users with access to apps already operating in the cloud. The vendor supplies the hardware infrastructure, the software product and interacts with the user through a front-end portal. End user is free to use the service from anywhere.

NO NEED FOR LOCAL DATA STORAGE:

NO NEED FOR LOCAL DATA STORAGE

USING CLOUD COMPUTING:

USING CLOUD COMPUTING Storing your MP3′s, video, photos and documents online makes us to access them wherever you can find the means to get online. Online storage facilities have safeguards in place to ensure that you, and only you, can get to your files. Examples of online storage services include Humyo , ZumoDrive , Microsoft’s SkyDrive , S3 from Amazon. Offered both free and paid for storage and backup solutions.

WORKING IN A VIRTUAL OFFICE:

WORKING IN A VIRTUAL OFFICE A word processor, a spreadsheet creator and a presentation or publishing platform can be used online instead. Accessibility, potential for collaboration and perhaps even online storage are the benefits by working online. Examples of online suite’s on offer include Ajax13, ThinkFree andMicros oft’s Office Live.

DISADVANTAGES:

DISADVANTAGES Security Downtime Cost Inflexibility Lack of support Peripherals such as printers or scanners might have issues, since local machine require access to particular drivers or programs.

CONCLUSION:

CONCLUSION Cloud computing is the next big wave in computing. Has many benefits - better hardware management, since all the computers are the same and run the same hardware. Provides for better and easier management of data security, since all the data is located on a central server, administrators can control who has and doesn't have access to the files.
