Numbers – 2.5 million Women – 38.4% Rural – 57% Source of AIDS Knowledge among Women and Men : Source of AIDS Knowledge among Women and Men Percent of women and men 15-49 who received information from specific sources 2005-06 National Family Health Survey (NFHS-3) Rajasthan has a low prevalence but high vulnerability in terms of HIV : Rajasthan has a low prevalence but high vulnerability in terms of HIV HIV already exists large population of Rajasthan (56.4 million), HIV and AIDS is equally as rural as an urban epidemic. out-migrating Rajasthan accounts for 19 percent of all mines in India. 25,000 trucks travel daily on NH 8 alone. Tourist Destination The South Africa Experience : The South Africa Experience 15-20 years back --- Denial --- Now Where India is 20% prevalence today Mainstreaming is : Mainstreaming is “the concept of addressing HIV & AIDS both internally and externally in all sectors, at all levels, particularly where the pandemic might not ordinarily be addressed.” Some Examples of mainstreaming: : Some Examples of mainstreaming: Mainstreaming Project: : Mainstreaming Project: UNDP is supporting the government’s efforts in mainstreaming HIV/AIDS in five low prevalence states through System strengthening Capacity development Building synergy & alliances Slide 12: To harmonize mainstreaming efforts and share experiences through formation of alliances across various programmes and with varied organisations such as: CSOs (NGOs, CBOs, FBOs) Private sector Networks, Associations, agencies Governmental departments ( Department of Panchayti Raj, Rural Development, Urban Development, Tribal, Tourist, Railway, Law, Health, Women and Child, Education and Labour) Extra mileage… : Extra mileage… Achievement in Govt. sector Department of Panchayti Raj / Department of Tourist has incorporated HIV issue into there ongoing trainings One Migrant Information Centre at Jaipur (Urban Development) During Follow up Government officers from 6 focus ministries, 11 Non HIV NGOs and 6 Corporate have signed Declaration for Mainstreaming of HIV at their office level. In the addition of above given activities, 6 Focus Ministries, 8 Non HIV NGOs, 4 Corporate have installed CONDOM CORNERS at their premises. Trainings on Mainstreaming of HIV ANMs/AWW/ASHA/Others: 5000 Corporate: 1300 Govt officials of focused dept.1900 Non HIV NGOs 300 Success in Corporate sector Jaipur Ceremic Pvt.
