Questions
Types of Errors and Warnings: Types of Errors and Warnings Input Validation Errors
May change according to submission
Import validation “errors” are due to:
Invalid reason, year, File type/Record type/Record subtype
Unnecessary data elements/records for transaction
User translation filter
SRRTS validation filter
Error results in record or data element to be filtered
Types of Errors and Warnings: Types of Errors and Warnings Input Validation Errors (continued)
Client Validation errors due to:
invalid format, character, look-up value or conditional value
Server Validation errors due to:
invalid values based on conditional data relationships
Client and Server input validation errors will result in:
E = Error – record is filtered out
W = Warning – record is retained
F = Fatal error - requires correction in order to proceed
Types of Errors and Warnings: Types of Errors and Warnings Post Aggregation Errors (Server-Side)
Change according to submission
Produced as a result of inconsistencies/errors detected during Aggregation or Trend step of server processing
It is CDE’s intention to ensure acceptable data quality from LEAs
All Post Aggregate errors must be fixed before Certification is allowed
Will cause the transaction to FAIL.
Types of Errors and Warnings: Types of Errors and Warnings Referential Integrity (RI) errors are detected during server processing and occur when a parent record is missing (eg. ENRA but no DEMO).
Record Count Validation Errors are detected during server processing and occur when a child record is missing (eg. DEMO but no ENRA).
Missing/Un-Expected Schools detected during server processing, based on CDE’s active schools list. Often results due to missing INST record.
Will cause the transaction to FAIL.
NOTE: Advise CDE and CSIS of any schools that have opened or closed since Fall Submission

Real World Scenarios: Real World Scenarios Review error examples/questions submitted by participants.
Discuss known SIS issues and solutions
Known Issues: Known Issues SS - W-LC-38 produced even though total 5a and total 5b don't match
SS - W-LC-029 produced on schools with grades 7-12 in error
SS – Exception error at Certify step but Certification goes through successfully
Local ID missing for E9058 – Allfiles Report
Notable Error Conditions: Notable Error Conditions Bilingual Teachers CAN’T be coded with English, must be another language
Only report teachers that provide core instructions – see Spring DSR
Post Agg errors: ALL
Post Agg warnings: review for legitimacy
Suggested Strategies: Suggested Strategies Set benchmarks on the local SIS side.
Run reports to check for required fields such as Birth Country or primary language to ensure all the data is populated correctly.
Run a report that gives summary of totals (ex: expected number of ELs, SNOR students, etc).
Set a benchmark by processing data through server (perform SEND), correcting F errors and obvious errors along the way.
Evaluate results of LEA report to identify data discrepancies.
Review results of All Files report to identify errors that contribute to data discrepancies.
Correct these errors only, plus any Aggregation errors.
Suggested Strategies (continued): Suggested Strategies (continued)
Review Import reports if All Files errors do not seem to account for all data discrepancies.
Repeat steps, this time addressing Import filtering and Client validation messages along the way.
Continue to repeat until LEA reports show the correct data aggregate values and there are no Aggregate and Expected/ Unexpected Schools errors.
Certify transaction. IF there are no Aggregate errors and IF LEA report is accurate, It is not necessary to correct all remaining errors in order to Certify.
Suggested Strategies (continued): Suggested Strategies (continued) Be aware of Import report totals
HINT: If Input count is lower than expected, extract did not pull all your records
HINT: If Kept count is lower than expected, check why records were filtered
Review Validation reports
Assess errors and correct those that will obviously affect the submission (e.g.. Check for missing INST errors in Record Count Validation)
Remember, the error reports don’t show every record that has the same error. When correcting your SIS, take time to apply correction to all relevant records.
SEND once a group of errors are fixed to assess your success in producing more accurate results.
