Slide 2:Dude, what are you doing? Yo, McCoy! I’m getting my site to number one on Google. I found this guy on ‘Rent-a-dude’ who can get my site really high in 48 hours by using a ‘cloaking’ technique that he says is dead clever and nobody else knows about! It’s ace!


Slide 3:What!!! Are you insane? Do you know that it involves analysing the user agent in the headers to discover who is accessing your pages then serving up a different page if it’s Google? Usually this means giving Google a really keyword-rich page that whilst being really easy for it to index is normally hideous to normal visitors who never get to see it anyway, instead they get a page that usually bears little resemblance to the one given to Google and hence would normally result in a different keyword density and probably not rank as well!!!! This is blatant cheating and Google frowns upon this sort of activity. If you get found out you’ll probably end up having your site demoted or even banned from the index FOR EVER!!! Such practices are known as ‘Black Hat’ and professional SEO consultants NEVER USE THEM!!!!!

Slide 5:Anyway, Google specifically states that you should serve up the same pages to its crawler bot as you do to the rest of your website visitors. In fact, they have banned extremely high profile websites for using this practice (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4685750.stm) and they won’t stop there. But there’s no need to do it!!! Simply make your website good to read and it will naturally rank highly if it’s relevant and information rich and not crap. Google’s quite clear on this subject: Geddit?


Slide 6:So what should I do? Well, first of all, tell your so called SEO expert to shove it and change all your server passwords if you were stupid enough to give them to him. Then get rid of the cloaking and spend some time making your site worthwhile to read with relevant content, interesting topics and information that people actually want to read. You should then spend some more time promoting the site via the various social networking websites that enable people to vote and comment on your content.
