Leadership Style :

Leadership Style My predominant leadership style is democratic; however, I can delegate effectively or impose my own ideas. As the Night School Facilitator and the NovaNET Summer School Facilitator, I used the democratic style of leadership. Necessary to share information as well as to collaborate with the team in order to efficiently utilize each staff member’s strengths for the benefit of the success of the programs, evident in ultimate successful student learning. I also used the democratic style of leadership as a co-department chair and the Campus Improvement Team Chairperson. As Registrar I use the delegative style of leadership in order to have successful graduations and for expeditious functioning of daily operations. On occasion when training an individual in a new skill or working with a short deadline, I implement the autocratic style of leadership.

Expectations for Virtual Teachers :

Expectations for Virtual Teachers Virtual teachers will: Prepare students to continue their educations after high school and to become productive and responsible citizens. Provide a creative, rigorous curriculum that meets the interests and needs of our students through the wealth of technology available in Spring Branch for the 21st Century Learner.

Visions for Alternative Learning Options :

Visions for Alternative Learning Options Alternative learning options must offer high quality curriculum aligned to the TEKS The learner is in control of his or her own learning Pace, time, and location are flexible Assessment options are varied Online availability of dual credit courses Technology is used as a tool for teaching, learning, and communicating (i.e. webcams, digital cameras, iPods, slide shows, interactive videoconferencing) Credit for learning beyond the walls of the classroom is available to encourage real world practical application Non-traditional teaching and learning experiences are accessed in order to afford students broader availability of course options

Examples of innovative learning :

Examples of innovative learning A home bound student participates in an art class or an entire class of students listens to an author’s lecture on creative writing and participates with the question / answer format via a webcam Students listen to podcasts of last minute test hints created by their teacher Students from different classes or locations teaming on a project entirely online A student project that requires a student to give a lesson on a particular objective and the student must videotape his or her lesson for the purpose of sharing with peers via the internet

Technology Applications I Visualize as Useful for the Position of E School Facilitator, Virtual Teachers, and the Students :

Technology Applications I Visualize as Useful for the Position of E School Facilitator, Virtual Teachers, and the Students Integrated software application, MicroSoft Word: Word processing, spreadsheet, desktop publishing, powerpoint Electronic video (animoto) Electronic poster creator (Glogster) Digital storytelling (Voice Thread) Photobook creator (Bookr) Skype Screencast applications (Freescreencast) Video hosting (YouTube) Email A social networking application such as Facebook Blogs and discussion boards

Handling Conflict with a Colleague, Parent, Administrator :

Handling Conflict with a Colleague, Parent, Administrator It has been my experience that having a professional and proactive approach to teaching and learning and interacting with students, staff, faculty, and supervisors, potential for conflict is minimized. Because I am a good listener who is empathetic, responsive to the needs of others, and flexible, I am able to diffuse a situation before it becomes a conflict.

How Do I Keep Myself Organized? How Do I Multitask? :

How Do I Keep Myself Organized? How Do I Multitask? I am naturally an organized person who likes to use a calendar. I have worked with SBISD for 24 years in different positions that required I have the ability to process and prioritize in order to multitask efficiently.

My Knowledge and Experience Using Data to Make Decisions :

My Knowledge and Experience Using Data to Make Decisions As the Finance Accountant Interpreted data to make budget decisions and to write reports for all campus activity funds, the general fund, all grant funds, and bond funds. As Department Co-Chair Responsible for budget data making purchasing decisions using the campus budget, activity fund, and CATE funds. As a member of the SOC Administrative Leadership Team since 1997 Interpreted student data for making decisions that impact scheduling and program development. As the Online Learning Lab teacher and facilitator Interpreted individual student data for differentiation of instruction, to prepare students for mastering the TEKS, and passing state standardized tests.

Define “Learning Community” and Describe Its Characteristics in a Virtual School :

Define “Learning Community” and Describe Its Characteristics in a Virtual School A learning community is a group of individuals who share a common interest in education. The focus of a learning community is student learning as an outcome. The academic needs of the students in the community are met by the meaningful organization of students and faculty into smaller groups. These entities share a common connection and collaborate through study, discovery, and problem solving. In the late 90’s former SBISD Superintendent Dr. Hal Guthrie introduced the concept of learning communities within SBISD. He organized the district into four feeder patterns according to the comprehensive high schools. Dr. Duncan Klussmann has developed the concept through academies. The virtual school network joins its members through shared activities and communication using the internet.

Combating Stress :

Combating Stress Whatever other emotions I experience, I try to focus academically and avoid the kind of emotional decisions that create stress. It is one of my strongest points.

Relative Importance of Routines in Daily Schedule :

Relative Importance of Routines in Daily Schedule Student learning, communication, and teamwork are my priorities. SBISD is a data driven school district. It is important to use student data effectively to improve student performance for the short and long term. Communication with teammates and students will ensure that we are always on target with program goals.

On My Behalf… :

On My Behalf… I am a visionary with the proven ability to design, develop, plan, schedule, implement, and evaluate program strategies. I was the first teacher to use online learning in SBISD. I saw the potential, proposed the idea, and developed the online learning experience into the SOC Night School program in addition to summer school sessions. I was responsible for developing each curriculum and creating processes and procedures for establishing a successful online learning lab that was ranked, for several years, as the Number One NovaNET Lab in the state of Texas. During that time period SOC was serving well over 300 students a year and graduating close to the same number of graduates as Northbrook High School.

On My Behalf… :

On My Behalf… As a member of the Administrative Instructional Leadership Team I have had administrative duties including managing instructional programs and handling ancillary duties such as lunch duty, hall duty, student disciplinary issues, interviewing prospective students as well as candidates for faculty and administrative support positions.

On My Behalf… :

On My Behalf… With hands-on experience working with school funding and budgets while in the Finance Department at the SBISD Administration building, participating on the campus administration team, contributing to a positive school climate, and promoting a safe environment, I have demonstrated my firm commitment to student-centered learning. Additionally, my varied experiences with SBISD have provided me with the opportunities to develop professional relationships with personnel employed at campuses throughout the district and at the district administrative level.

On My Behalf… :

On My Behalf… The roles and responsibilities of the E School Facilitator and the ability to contribute to the student learning experience are exciting to me and I believe I am prepared to assume this position. I am a certified Technology Applications teacher who enjoys technology and is familiar with both software applications and computer hardware.

On My Behalf… :

On My Behalf… I have Principal certification in both Texas and Arizona including three (3) semester hours of Structured English Immersion.
