Premium member Presentation Transcript Slide 1: Alzheimer’s Disease What you need to know Alzheimer’s Association Greater Indiana Chapter Alzheimer’s Disease Basics : Alzheimer’s Disease Basics Alzheimer’s (AHLZ-high-merz) disease destroys brain cells and affects a person's memory, ability to learn, make judgments, communicate, and carry out basic daily activities. Alzheimer’s is not normal aging. It is a progressive, fatal disease and has no cure. Alzheimer’s disease vs. Dementia : Alzheimer’s disease vs. Dementia Dementia is an umbrella term. Dementia is a loss of memory and other intellectual abilities serious enough to interfere with daily life. Alzheimer’s disease is the cause of 70% of all dementia cases. Other forms of dementia include Vascular Dementia, Lewy Body Disease, Parkinson’s Disease and 170 other culprits Other Causes of Memory Problems : Other Causes of Memory Problems Dementia symptoms can also be reversible.
