Slide 2:

Genre: Horror Director: Neil JordanCertificate: 18 Main actors: Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Antonio Banderas, Christian Slater. Pros: The opening scene is an establishing shot of sanfranciso at night, which opens the audience up to the scenery and the surroundings. It soon changes to the scene inside the room with lestat and the reporter, it shows close ups of both their faces and they engage is conversation. The scene when the light switches interests the audience greatly and indulges them more into the reality of his character. A two shot is taken with both of them sitting at the tablewhich the story really starts with a narrative concept, this is establishedwell by one of them being a reporter. Cons: Although the scenes are established very well and it is allportayed well, some of the camera angles are a bit dodgy and thelight switching scene could of shown the actual action more, other than that it is very good.Title Sequence:There is no title sequence in the beginning of this film.http://tvshack.cc/movies/Interview_with_the_Vampire__The_Vampire_Chronicles__1994_/ INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE

Slide 3:

Genre: Comedy Director: Tom ShadyacCertificate: PG Main actors: Jim Carey, Courtney CoxPros: The opening scene is a low level shot of feet walking which follows him along to where he's going which helps the audience keep track. This then pans up to him throwing a boxthat is making breaking noises, showing the comical appeal about it allaswell as introducing the audience to the genre. More scenes of this nature follow to do with breaking the box until he ultimatelyreaches the packages destination. Cons: Although the scenes are done very well and the camerawork is done well, you almost feel like the material quicklybecomes repetitive and the camera work shows nothing that definesthe movie and makes it special to the viewer.Title Sequence: The title sequence is portayed very well, although it isnt eye catching the bubbly, white writing fits in the with the music and the comical atmosphere, showing the actors names, producers names etcOn some parts you can almost feel like inside jokes are in the title sequence for example when the production designers name appears, a shot of a dog is shown.http://tvshack.cc/movies/Ace_Ventura__Pet_Detective__1994_/ ACE VENTURA: PET DETECTIVE

Slide 4:

Genre: Action, sci-fi Director: Neill BlomkampCertificate: 15 Main actors: Sharlto Copely, Jason Cope, Nathalie BolttPros: When the movie opens it is shown as a mid level shot almost like an interview of our main character, the audience immediately knows that this is who we will be following. It opens well, we know themain character, it then draws us in with an establishing shot of the ‘alien ship’, which captures the audiences interest, and the establishingshot also shows us (and we are told) it (the ship) has landed above Johannesburg, this is contrasting to other alien films which is good and original. Cons: The scenes are done well, and although we are informed quicklyand to the point, I feel there could have been a bit more leading uptoit, more having to make the audience guess what the big mystery is about, maybe having some quick shots of the ‘prawns’ or other shots.Title sequence:There is no title sequence in the beginning on this film.http://tvshack.cc/movies/District_9__2009_/ DISTRICT 9

Slide 5:

Genre: Superhero Action Director: Zack SnyderCertificate: 18 Main actors: Malin Akerman, Billy Crudrup, Matthew GoodePros: The film opens with a very slow motion fight scene (midshot) with the titles appearing in yellow, which is the ‘watchmen’ colour, this helps the audience establish what's going on early, knowing violenceand blood will be a part of this film, as well as the aptly dressedcharacter throwing the punch. The scene continues with the same kind of shots (mid level) and titles, which effects the audience well.Cons: The scenes are slow and although well shot, it leaves a lotto the viewers imagination, it doesn't really entrap the viewer in the story and only gives a vague idea of superheroes and villains.Title Sequence: The titles match the watchmen colour, and theyalso show the cast, producer etc well and vividly, sometimes corresponding the person with their part, for example the costumedesigners name is shown next to one of the costumes.http://tvshack.cc/movies/Watchmen__2009_/ WATCHMEN

Slide 6:

Genre: Horror Director: Tobe HooperCertificate: 18 Main actors: Marilyn Burns, Allen Danziger, Paul A. Partain Pros: It opens with titles, after this some paragraphs scroll up for theviewer to read, these paragraphs explain the story, and the horrorof it. This tells the viewer what its about, but leaves the worst tothe imagination. It then goes black, then flashes of bits of mutilatedlimbs appear, hangs, arms etc. until eventually it shows a two figuresthat seem to have their skin melted in a deserted town, it pans out to the title sequence. Cons: The gaps in between each shot seems to last too long, as wellas the final shot dragging for a bit as well, although some may saythis is for effect, others may just as well argue it almost ruins the horrific effect its supposed to impose on the viewer.Title Sequence: After what I mentioned was show, the title shots start to appear; Although it is short the red and black contrast helps the viewer to imagine blood and evil, as with most associations are made with them colours, in yellow producer and cast are shown withthis in the background, which keep the viewer gripped and still on edge after the previous shots that have taken place.http://tvshack.cc/movies/Texas_Chainsaw_Massacre__1974_/ TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE

Slide 7:

Genre: Action Director: Sam RaimiCertificate: 12A Main actors: Toby McGuire, Kirsten Dunst, William DafoePros: The opening scene to the spider-man movie is the very welldone title sequence. The scenes are done very well, using web asif it where catching the casts and directors etc names, and then smashing them, the colours work very well, the red and blue well known spider-man colours are throughout, and as it’s a bit darker, the audience feels a new side to spider-man, almost a new take on what he is depicted as in the film. Cons: Although the opening sequence is very well done, you feel likeit is too edgy and that it feels too dark, and almost basic, this doesn'thelp the audience feel like their typical spider-man, which for some isn't necessarily a good thing.Title Sequence: The titles themselves are artfully done, with ashard cut to all the names etc, and the web being very thin and almostrealistic this helps put focus on the names with the audience as well astaking note of the tense music and almost morbid colour.http://tvshack.cc/movies/Spider-Man__2002_/ SPIDER-MAN

Slide 8:

Genre: Superhero, Action Director: Tim StoryCertificate: 12 Main actors: Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, Ioan Grufford.Pros: It begins with a mid level shot of the ‘mr fantastic’, although the heroes don’t have their powers yet, the main castbecomes clear when shots are heavily shown of them throughout. They are all shown on the space ship, getting ready for going intosome cosmic rays, and all main characters are present, the audience knows the cosmic ray is going to be the pivot point, and that the characters are all going to change into what they are expected to be. Cons: The shots are good but it all seems a bit un-informative and a bit quick paced, although the characters are introduced wedon’t really know much about any of them, and we are pushedinto it the main plot too quickly.Title Sequence: There is no title sequence in the beginningof the film.http://tvshack.cc/movies/Fantastic_Four__2005_/ FANTASTIC 4

Slide 9:

Genre: Animated Comedy Director: Andrew Adamson, Vicky JensonCertificate: PG Main actors: Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz (all voice)Pros: It starts opening with a narrative voice reading a (BEV) book, the viewerimmediately knows this voice is going to be important by its almost mocking tones, and formal closure on the book, it ends with the book closing and the story itself ending, but the actual film more or less takingoff, this is good for the audience, they feel comedy, ease and feel likethey're tagging along with the main character. Cons: Although the scenes are good and friendly, they almost feel a bitpredictive and not very comical because of that fact.Title Sequence:There is no title sequence at the beginning of this film.http://tvshack.cc/movies/Shrek__2001_/ SHREK

Slide 10:

Genre: Drama Director: Walter HillCertificate: PG Main actors: Ralph Macchio, Steve Vai, Joe SenecaPros: It opens with black back grounded white titles, this puts it straight to the viewer who's who, who does what etc, although not fun,its effective. This then changes to a sepia coloured high angle shot of a man at ‘the crossroads’, if the viewer knows the legend this will immediately set the viewer up for the film. Cons: For people who do not know the legend of the crossroads thismight seem confusing, and the title sequence is very bland. Title Sequence: Not too much can be said for the title sequence, it is very very simple, black background, white writing, it contrasts well and tells the viewer the director etc, as well as not throwing too muchat the viewer.http://tvshack.cc/movies/Crossroads__1986_/ CROSSROADS

Slide 11:

Genre: Thriller Director: Paul McGuiganCertificate: 18 Main actors: Josh Hartnett, Bruce Willis, Lucy Lui, Morgan Freeman Pros: The film opens with a shot of a phone ringing, this intriguesthe viewer and makes them curios. After this is shows a man walking towards what seems to be his car, getting shot bysomeone unknown and dropping a briefcase, titles are shown throughout. This makes the viewer curious, and makes them Interested. Cons: The introduction is good, but also very vague, the viewerdoesn't know what to follow, and they do not know much of what's going on, although this is good for suspicion, tis almosttoo vague for interest.Title Sequence: The titles are put very well next to objects, showing the names and the titles of people, the font themselves are very well done and although simple, effective to the viewer.http://tvshack.cc/movies/Lucky_Number_Slevin__2006_/ LUCKY NUMBER SLEVIN

Slide 12:

Genre: Comedy Director: Todd PhillipsCertificate: 15 Main actors: Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach GalafianakisPros: The opening sequence is a show of the characters after themain event that the film of based on, it opens with a close up of a man next to a van, sorting out what seems to be wedding stuff. After this a good contrast is made in a close up shot to the one of the main characters bloody and dirty in a desert, explaning they have lost one of the other main character, this opens up the audiences perspective.Cons: The wedding scene seems to drag on a bit longer than needed and the audience isnt really aware of what is going ontoo much.Title Sequence: The opening sequences of the film tie in nicelywith the titles as the titles match the writing that is first seen onthe edge of the van in white writing, this blends in well and doesn't distract the audience too much as well as having a good effect.http://tvshack.cc/movies/The_Hangover__2009_/ THE HANGOVER

Slide 13:

Genre: Drama Director: Frank Darabont, Certificate: 15 Main actors: Tim Robbins, Morgan Freeman, Bob Guntan Pros: The opening scene is a long shot that evolves into a trackshot and follows some o the prisoners to what they’re going towards, which evidently sets the character up to seeing another main character, which is being narrated by (and acted) Morgan Freeman, it sets the audience up well and establishes the surrounding environment. The establishing shot of the prison also sets the mise en scene. Cons: (ignore the pun). The opening shots are good although having a few more establishing shots, and maybe some birds-eye-view shots would help understand the layout more carefully.Title Sequence: There is no title sequence at the beginning of this film.http://tvshack.cc/movies/The_Shawshank_Redemption__1994_/ THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION

Slide 14:

Genre: Drama Mystery Thriller Director: David FincherCertificate: 18 Main actors: Brad Pitt, Edward Norton, Helena Bonham Carter. Pros: The opening sequence of the film is an extreme close up ofa characters eyebrow lining, this follows their face down and thentracks backwards up a gun that is pointed inside the characters mouth, this then shows a close up of the characters distressed face.I think this is very effective as it is a new approach towards showing a character in distress, or at gunpoint. Cons: The opening scene is original and effective although it seemsto be a lot of effort gone into a scene that doesn't seem to be too needed, an easier introduction to the story and/or characterscould be used.Title Sequence: The title sequence in this film opens quite interestingly, the titles are white with a blue outer layer while they aredrifting through what looks like the structure of nerves, making animpact on the audience, and also showing them this is different.http://tvshack.cc/movies/Fight_Club__1999_/ FIGHT CLUB

Slide 15:

Genre: Horror , Thriller Director: Mary HarronCertificate: 18 Main actors: Christian Bale, Justin Theroux, Josh LucasPros: The opening scene is close up shot of what the audience thinks to be blood at first, but soon realises it is a type of sauce, and the scene is in a very posh restaurant. Wall street brokers aresitting at a table, which gives the audience a good insight into theirculture, and it also introduces the main character- Patrick Bateman. Cons: Although the intro is delicately done, the scene after whenthe main character talks about himself would have fitted better,it tells us about him, his way of life, his views on himself, what he does, which this scene only does in terms of work.Title Sequence: The opening titles of this film blend nicely with The posh setting it is put into and the writing goes in well becauseof the rich text and font that is put into the context, also the white writing is a nice setting also.http://tvshack.cc/movies/American_Psycho__2000_/ AMERICAN PSYCHO

Slide 16:

Genre: Crime Director: Guy RitchieCertificate: 18 Main actors: Brad Pitt, Vinnie Jones, Jason StathamPros: The opening scene is of some men dressed as jewish men on a high angle CCTV camera in an elevator, it follows their conversation and switches CCTV cameras to approach the cameraangles to different aspects of the characters, which I thought wasa good way to show the audience. Cons: Although very fitting and well done, the cameras justseem to be poor quality, and although this is intentional I thinkit should have been changed to give the audience a better insightinto the characters.Title Sequence: The title sequence is done very well, showingmain characters and directors etc names, in a black square with white writing on each name, going well in the CCTV cameras view, and giving it the kind of un polished, tatty look, very fitting.http://tvshack.cc/movies/Snatch___2000_/ SNATCH

Slide 17:

Genre: Crime, Thriller Director: Jonathan DemmeCertificate: 18 Main actors: Jodie Foster, Scott Glenn, Anthony HopkinsPros: The opening scene is an oppressive grey sky with darker, un colourfultrees and a forest, a long shot of Jodie Foster running through them whichsets the film up for its feeling and texture, giving the audience a good idea of what is coming up. Cons: Even though it is meant to be dull and tense, it feels too dull, almostlike production could of taken into account more and done more with the feeling they are trying to achieve and get across, using more dull colours, highlighting anything significant etc.Title Sequence: There is no opening title sequence in this movie.http://tvshack.cc/movies/The_Silence_of_the_Lambs__1991_/ THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS

Slide 18:

Genre: Science-Fiction, Action Director: Andy Wachowski, Lana WachowskiCertificate: 15 Main actors: Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburn Pros: The film opens with the typical green matrix writing andnumbers which sets the audience into a new familiarity of it. The next shot goes into a track shot of someone policemen going down a worn out corridor towards a room that looks like they are going to Break into, upon doing so our main character is revealed which shows the audience she is one of the main characters, and goes into a fight scene which shows her and her characteristics more. Cons: the scenes are good, and the use of tension is good, although the opening scene seems to drag on for a bit with the writing, and the audience Is completely unaware of what it means, rendering this scene quite useless.Title Sequence: There is no title sequence at the beginning of the film.http://tvshack.cc/movies/The_Matrix__1999_/ THE MATRIX

Slide 19:

Genre: Thriller Action Director: Zack SnyderCertificate: 15 Main actors: Gerard Butler, Lena Headey, Dominic WestPros: The opening sequence is lightning flashing to highlight a close up of skulls on th floor, instantly preparing the audience for what is to come. The shot afterwards is an over the shoulder of a child being held, this is a goodcontrast to the previous shot. It then changes into the baby as a young boy, and follows him as he trains with what seems to be his father, until eventually manhood. Cons: Although these scenes are good they seem a bit dull, and althoughits almost like a chronological trackshot, more could have been doneto tell the audience of the character, and the location, as apposed tofollowing him.Title Sequence: There is no title sequence in the beginning of this film.http://tvshack.cc/movies/300__2006_/ 300

Slide 20:

Genre: Neo-noir, Action Director: Frank Miller, Robert Rodriguez Certificate: 18 Main actors: Jessica Alba, Devon Aoki, Clive OwenPros: The opening shot is a high angle shot of a woman in a red dress, with a black and white background, the main character is in colour though In this scene, showing that the characters that are of importance will be significant in the film, showing the audience information and backing of themovie. It switches to a man walking towards her and they begin to converseand the film starts to take off. Cons: The scene is good but it is irrelevant to the film itself, more couldhave been done to introduce other characters. It feels as if the vieweris left without a lead after this scene, thinking it will carry onwith relevance to the film although unfortunately it doesn’t. Title Sequence: There is no title sequence in the opening scenes.http://tvshack.cc/movies/Sin_City__2005_/ SIN CITY

Slide 21:

Genre: Action Thriller Director: James McTeigueCertificate: 15 Main actors: Natalie Portman, Hugo Weaving, Stephen Rea Pros: The first scene is a close up shot of a television setwith a man speaking on it, Which pans out to reveal themain character ‘V’ walking past it, sitting down and puttingon his mask, this scene parallels to our other main character‘Evee’ also watching the same thing, this helps the audience already associate the two, distinguish the maincharacters and know some things about them. Cons: Well done, and seemingly very cheap, although it is good it feels as if its lacking a bit more to it, some more Shots, some environmental shots of their surroundings, more sound other than television.Title Sequence: There is no title sequence at the beginning, although it does show a very effective title, ‘V’for vendetta, which appears in flames, which entices the audience because it is not of the usual.http://tvshack.cc/movies/V_for_Vendetta__2005_/ V FOR VENDETTA

Slide 22:

Genre: Heist Director: Steven SoderberghCertificate: 12 Main actors: Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Matt Damon, Julia RobertsPros: The scene opens with a mid level shot of an empty chair, thatis soon filled by a character (George Clooney) in a prison outfit, and he is being questioned about being let free. The camera soon changes toa close up of his face, where he seems to be very casual, giving theaudience an idea of his character, and letting them into the personalityof him. Cons: Not much is going on, simple but not very effective for drawingthe audience into the film, you’re not too sure what genre it is andhow it is going to grip you, if it does at all. Title Sequence: There is no title sequence at the beginning of the film.http://tvshack.cc/movies/Ocean_s_Eleven__2001_/ OCEANS ELEVEN

Slide 23:

Genre: Fantasy- Adventure Director: Gore VerbinskiCertificate: PG Main actors: Johnny Depp, Geoffrey Rush, Orlando Bloom Pros: The intro shot for this is a low angle shot that followsup to the characters back, eventually to over the shoulder showing the audience he is on a ship, looking out to sea. It soon switches to low angle shot of him jumping down the mastof his boat into a flooding bottom, which grips the audience andprovides a comical effect to it all. Cons: Although the intro is well done, with good humour, it Feels like you don’t get to know the character to well, and if attempted to mimic the scene would be well out of budget forus.Title Sequence: There is no title sequence at the beginning of this film. PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN

Slide 24:

Genre: Horror, Thriller Director: David SladeCertificate: 18 Main actors: Josh Hartnett, Melissa George, Danny HutsonPros: The opening scene is a few bird eye view shots of the town in Alaska that it is based in, these are accompanied by the reasoning for the name of the film, and the topic of why, it is Cut of from daylight, for 30 days (30 days of night). This is effective and simple, showing the audience what its about, giving them curiosity and making them know something bad is going to happenwithin that era. Cons: Almost too simple, not much is going on and the audience doesn't really know anything more than that something is going tohappen, also the birds eye view shots are quite clouded by the heavysnow, making the scene and landscape even harder to work out.Title Sequence: There are few opening titles, what ones there are blend in nicely with the snowy background, using red and white To blend with the background, but the red to give the effect of blood, showing the audience a bit more and letting them interpret more tothemselves.http://tvshack.cc/movies/30_Days_of_Night__2007_/ 30 DAYS OF NIGHT
