Premium member Presentation Transcript akasha fine art glass 2010 : akasha fine art glass 2010 The Creation of “Kootenay Lake Wedding” : Title: “Kootenay Lake Wedding” ~ Commissioned by Deanne Crossley ~ Nelson, British Columbia, Canada akasha fine art glass 2010 Slide 3: This pattern is based on a photo taken of Tala Crossley’s wedding scene on a beach by Kootenay Lake close to Nelson, British Columbia. akasha fine art glass 2010 : Susan selects the glass most appropriate for each piece of the commission. akasha fine art glass 2010 Slide 5: Susan cuts out each piece of the pattern and uses it as a template to cut each individual piece of glass. akasha fine art glass 2010 Slide 6: Each piece of the pattern is numbered individually. akasha fine art glass 2010 : Susan uses a white waterproof pen to draw the pattern onto the glass. akasha fine art glass 2010 Slide 8: For visibility and ease of cutting a white pen is used to draw on dark colored glass and a black pen is used to draw on light colored glass. akasha fine art glass 2010 Slide 9: The glass must be scored with a cutter first before it will break. akasha fine art glass 2010 Slide 10: Susan uses special glass breaking pliers to break the glass along the score line. akasha fine art glass 2010 Slide 11: Any rough edges are sanded off of the glass to prevent cuts when handling. This step is an easy way to prevent painful injuries to fingers. akasha fine art glass 2010 Slide 12: This piece of glass has been labelled and is destined to be used in the piece to show the beautiful blue colours of Kootenay Lake. akasha fine art glass 2010 Slide 13: Susan places the glass into position. akasha fine art glass 2010 Slide 14: Once the glass is in position, it is secured with flexible metal that is soldered at the joints. akasha fine art glass 2010 Slide 15: The glass work on this piece is nearly complete. akasha fine art glass 2010 Slide 16: “Kootenay Lake Wedding” glass work is finished. akasha fine art glass 2010 Slide 17: Susan adds a patina to give the piece an antique effect. This changes the color of the lead from a silver to a bronze/black color. akasha fine art glass 2010 Slide 18: Patina is rubbed onto each piece and then buffed with a soft cloth. akasha fine art glass 2010 Slide 19: Susan buffs the entire piece until it achieves a high gloss antique finish. akasha fine art glass 2010 Slide 20: John uses the mitre saw to cut the driftwood to length.
