FIRST AID First aid is the immediate help given to an injured person before the doctor arrives. Let us learn about the different ways of dealing with different types of ACCIDENTS.

DURING AN EMERGENCY WE SHOULD… Stay calm and use our commonsense Call adults immediately for help Give first aid if possible Call a doctor or an ambulance if necessary

Dealing with emergencies Like…

PowerPoint Presentation:

FRACTURED BONES… Don’t let the injured person walk without a support. Take him in a stretcher Keep the injured part elevated on pillow Cloth can be used to give the support to a broken arm Do not massage the affected area Get medical assistance as soon as possible

PowerPoint Presentation:

FAINTING… When a person faints, position him on his back Restore blood flow by loosening clothing/ belt/collars, shoes and socks Massage the body a little Place the feet above head level Patient should become normal within a minute. Check if his breathing/pulse is normal. If not, seek medical help.

PowerPoint Presentation:

Fire … Do not throw water on it. Put lots of sand or mud on the fire. Use a fire extinguisher. The person should roll on the ground. Cover him with a blanket so as to cut off the oxygen supply

PowerPoint Presentation:

Electric shock… First step is to switch off the source of current or else move the person using a wooden stick. Attend to the victim and check for breathing. If the person is not breathing, call for emergency medical help.

PowerPoint Presentation:

CUTS & WOUNDS… Wash your hands with soap and water before giving first aid to an injured person. Clean the wound with water and an antiseptic lotion like dettol or savlon . Apply an antibiotic ointment and then cover it with a bandage using a tourniquet in case of severe bleeding. We can also use ice or tincture of iodine to stop bleeding from a deep cut. If the wound is deep, take the patient to a doctor as soon as possible. It may require stitches. If a wound or cut is caused by a rusty metallic object, a disease called tetanus might occur. Consult a doctor for an anti tetanus injection.
