Social, Economic and Biological factors in the Prevention and Control of Cholera, Malaria, TB and AIDS :Social, Economic and Biological factors in the Prevention and Control of Cholera, Malaria, TB and AIDS Cholera: It can be controlled by treating patients with oral rehydration therapy and making sure that human faeces do not reach the water supply. The disease is prevented by providing clean, chlorinated water and good sanitation. There is no effective vaccine.
Tuberculosis: The bovine form, to prevent people catching TB through infected milk, bacteria in cattle's milk is pasteurized or killed by ultra-high temperature.
For the prevention of other form, drugs are widely used, they are isoniazid and rifampicin. This drug therapy is really effective cures 95% of the patients and reduces the spread of MDR strains. Contact tracing is used to find people who have caught this disease and treated if found infected. The BCG vaccine provides some protection against TB. 9/20/2008 (C) Ayesha Rehman
Social, Economic and Biological factors in the Prevention and Control of Cholera, Malaria, TB and AIDS :9/20/2008 (C) Ayesha Rehman Malaria: Its prevented by reducing the number of mosquitoes by insecticide spraying or draining breeding sites, using mosquitoes nets for sleeping, using drugs to prevent plasmodium infecting people e.g. Paludrine, not allowing water to collect in empty tins and other containers for too long as mosquitoes lay their eggs in stagnant water, spraying oil over still water, oil reduces the surface tension of water mosquito larvae or pupa are killed since they are unable to adhere to the surface to breathe.
Infected people can control/treat it with drugs quinine or chloroquine. Social, Economic and Biological factors in the Prevention and Control of Cholera, Malaria, TB and AIDS RBCs infected by P.Falciparum
Social, Economic and Biological factors in the Prevention and Control of Cholera, Malaria, TB and AIDS :9/20/2008 (C) Ayesha Rehman AIDS: It can be controlled by using barrier methods e.g. condom/femidom during copulation.
Educating people to practice safer sex is a control method.
Contact tracing to find people who have infected HIV so that they can be tested and counseled.
Life expectancy can be increased by use of combination drug therapy which interferes the replication of the virus, however it is expensive, difficult to adhere and has unpleasant side-effects.
There is no vaccine for HIV and no cure for AIDS yet. Social, Economic and Biological factors in the Prevention and Control of Cholera, Malaria, TB and AIDS
