Introduction: Introduction The first study abroad program of its kind in Vietnam Located in Danang A blend of study and service Full-time Project staff Comprehensive services Three institutions of higher learning Slide3: Program House Danang, Vietnam Meals in Program House Swimming at China Beach Slide4: WHAT IS INCLUDED? Orientation before and after arrival Five courses; 21 semester credit hours Transportation in Vietnam Tours, field trips Meals Laundry Phone (receive calls) Email (small fee) Internet (small fee) Course materials and texts Interpreters Tutoring Trips to Hanoi and HCMC Much, much more…………… Slide5: Slide6: CURRICULUM: CURRICULUM Four classroom courses: Language, History, Politics, Culture. Mornings: Monday through Thursday. One experiential course: Community Service. Three afternoons and one evening each week. Services range from helping in a group home for disabled children, to helping Agent Orange victims in their own homes, to feeding families who live in a garbage dump, to distributing food and medicine in a leper colony, to helping to teach English, to helping the poor in a nursing home. COURSES: COURSES Courses taught by instructors from Danang University, Duy Tan University, and Danang School of Politics Community Service at various sites in and near Danang Earn 21 SUNY Brockport credit, no need to transfer credit from foreign university DAILY LIVING: DAILY LIVING Partially air-conditioned house just for Project Single or double bedrooms Cable TV, VCR, etc. Shopping, restaurants, etc. New friends Festivals, special events Recreation: swimming, biking, etc. Several trips to other places in Vietnam Slide10: Helping Others Changes The world. It also will Change You. Slide11: REQUIREMENTS: REQUIREMENTS Junior or Senior status or grad student 2.5 GPA Maturity, open to new culture and political system Flexible, sense of humor, adventuresome Sensitive to others’ differences and needs Slide13: The most beautiful country in the world!
