Typical Classroom:

Consisting of “organized” chairs and desks in rows Teacher oriented Class instruction plan usually written on board Period of instruction is timed each day Typical Classroom

Online Classroom:

Consisting of user computer/laptop No “set time” for classroom instruction User friendly Group led / Teacher facilitated Virtual World Online Classroom

MOTIVATION:

MOTIVATION The un-motivated student Student could be dealing with family issues – illness, death, etc.. Student is not prepared to post or participate in class discussion Student is still afraid of “technology” Instructor assumes students are already knowledgeable on topics being discussed Family Unprepared Assumption Funds Phobia Student is not equipped monetarily to buy appropriate equipment required for class participation

Motivation Creates:

Motivation will yield better interactions amongst students. Motivation will yield a ‘happier’ and more productive student. Motivation Creates More productive student Better learning environment

Motivation provides a goal towards which an individual can work towards. Motivation also provides students with self-regulation; control over when/what they are learning. Motivation Provides

TRADITIONAL vs. ONLINE:

TRADITIONAL CLASSROOM Students in rows Teacher led instruction Motivation by rewarding the student in front of peers Underutilization of technology in learning environment Students online Teacher facilitated student led learning. Motivation primarily on student Technology oriented instruction and assignments ONLINE CLASSROOM TRADITIONAL vs. ONLINE Classrooms are slowly transitioning onto the virtual world.

Make the classroom interactive amongst students by leading dialogue. Give credit for first and original responses. Question the voice of the individual.
