The 13th Avenue School Art History Club Goes to Italy!

Parent involvement is mandatory! : 

Parent involvement is mandatory! In order to join the Art History Club Students have to write a statement “Why they want to participate” Present three letters of recommendation

“We do it because we have a deep desire to learn…” : 

“We do it because we have a deep desire to learn…” The club meets once a week until 4:30 to study Ancient Roman and Greek civilizations and their influences on art, science, music, literature, drama, marine biology, math engineering, government and modern day culture…

Nothing can substitute for first hand experiences… : 

Nothing can substitute for first hand experiences… Students have been given “ePals” who are 7th and 8th grade Students from the Chimarosa School in Naples. They’ll go on field trips together while in Italy in hopes of forming life-long friendships to make the world feel a little smaller

“We are going to Italy!” Students have been continuously exposed to the Italian language are able to communicate basic exchanges and are able to understand what is spoken to them…

“We will go by train from Naples to the sight of Pompeii and tour the ruins…” With the aid of Google maps, photos, books films and lectures we studied the eruption of MT Vesuvius in 79AD, and the contribution to history and art that was gained from the excavation of Pompeii

Ercolano Dear Mr. George, My name is Jason Ross. I am a 7tgh grader. This trip is an golden opportunity to have something that I didn’t have before… better research. If I go to Italy I’ll have a closer advantage to discovering the secrets of the galaxy. I am an only child with a big mind, big dreams but no money! I really want to thank you for your help.

Royal Palace of Naples “When Ms. Savino brought this trip to our attention in September I could lift a truck! I couldn’t wait. But a couple of months ago when our grant was denied, I was devastated… my dreams were lost … But then…thank you so much DREAMS REALLY DO COME TRUE!”

Following a lesson on marine biology and ecology of the areas around Sorrento, the students will be able to name some of the marine life that will be found in the waters and describe the topography of the land and how it was formed
